Sanity

GRM Digital builds headless websites on Sanity, giving content teams real-time collaborative editing and developers a fully customisable studio.

What is Sanity?

Sanity is a headless, API-first content management system, in the same category as Kontent.ai and Contentful — content is modelled as structured data and delivered wherever it's needed via API. What sets it apart is Sanity Studio, its editing interface, which is itself an open-source application that can be customised and extended with code.

It also supports real-time collaborative editing, so multiple people can work on the same content simultaneously, closer to how a shared document works than a typical CMS.

The technology

What Sanity is good for

01

Highly customisable editing experience

Sanity Studio can be tailored with custom fields, previews and workflows rather than accepting a fixed interface.

02

Real-time collaboration

Multiple content editors can work on the same content at the same time, with changes visible instantly.

03

Structured, queryable content

Content is modelled precisely and queried with GROQ, a powerful query language built for exactly this purpose.

04

Multi-channel delivery

The same content can power a website, an app, or other digital channels from one source.

05

Developer-friendly customisation

Because Studio is a React application, developers can extend it as deeply as a project needs.

06

Good fit for content-heavy, fast-moving teams

Particularly suited to teams publishing frequently and collaboratively, like editorial or media organisations.

Why GRM Digital uses Sanity

Sanity is our recommendation when a client's content team needs an editing experience that's genuinely tailored to how they work, not just a generic CMS interface — and especially where multiple editors regularly work on content together in real time.

As with Contentful and Kontent.ai, we treat the choice of headless CMS as a fit exercise: Sanity's customisable Studio and real-time collaboration are the deciding factors when they matter, not a default preference.
